I find that my writing comes mainly from my own personal experiences and firmly held beliefs. I have been journaling since a teenager, but only in the last few years have I found my voice in poetic form. I use free verse, but am experiementing with more formal poetry types. I am also expanding into short stories and am working on my first novel.
