I aim to be straight-forward. My reviews will focus on my reading experience, not the way I would write your story.
I'll give a quick summary of your item. Afterwards, I'll talk about your characters, any Spelling or Grammar issues, and perhaps suggest some things, like adding the item to a Genre that it would fit into.
| Unsentimental. I focus on the kinds of craft issues that will keep a writer from being taken seriously and prevent them from fully expressing their vision.
For more information, see "Writing Hurts: Review Forum" |
I start with the reader experience - did the story pull me in and keep me engaged? From there, I'll dig into what worked and what didn't, focusing on the elements that impacted my experience: character motivation, pacing, whether the emotional beats landed. I use 5 key questions to structure my feedback when needed, but my goal is always to help writers see their story through a reader's eyes. I don't edit for grammar or spelling, but I'll flag it if it pulls me out of the story.
Honest and fun-filled! The price is so high because I'm a bit too honest and I need the GP's for a Anti-Bullying group. Don't want to pay that much but want my review? Shoot me an email with the item with 10 GP's.
My goal is to give a detailed, organized review that highlights the positive characteristics of the work, while also touching on any areas that might benefit from some editing. All of my reviews are, of course, just suggestions and meant to be helpful to the author. I am always available via WDC email if more input is needed on any aspect of the review.
I like a review that makes me edit, even if it bothers me or offends me. So I look at your piece with, "What would I change to make this better and why?" And I write down most of what I think... the limit being how much you paid, more than how much you can handle! And of course there's no guarantee that my advice won't make it worse. Well, except the long list of bestseller credits-- oh, I haven't published them yet. But feel free to request a refund if I really like your piece. It's happened, sometimes I'm in too good of a mood and I think your work is perfect. If it was, you'd be submitting it for a royalty advance... praise is nice but it's like Chinese food, you need more in an hour. Whereas critique sticks to your ribs...
I will write a detailed review of your item that goes into detail about the positives and negatives of your item. I color code each section so everything is easy to see once you view your review.
I like to say how I relate to an item. Spelling and grammar are less important.
I'm honest when I review thing I'll say what's on my mind but at the same time I try to stay positive and will always tell you what you did right but this means in no way am I a professional reviewer so take my reviews with a grin of salt please
I attempt a well-rounded review where I look at the item from a writer's and reader's perspective. I'll tell you what I liked and what I think could be strengthened. I like to think I'm a courteous and helpful reviewer.
I will say what I liked about your piece and if I have any suggestions for improvement. My reviews are usually short, sweet and to the point. I prefer to review short stories but will look at poetry if asked to.
I am thorough. The technical aspects are important to me as much as if the story makes sense. The word "cruel" has been used before when responding to a review I've given, but in an appreciative and kind way.
Minimalist. Focus on technical. I also look at how a work would fit into the traditional publishing landscape. I don't use a template. Warning: I am Australian, and so cultural differences may apply.
I tend to be constructive, though I've been known to be a bit too nice...at least, in my opinion. note that while I'll review anything requested, they can be a bit sloppy if I don't take interest.
I will be honest: I just want GP. However, when I get paid to do something, it is a job, and I don't mess around with jobs. Do note that my spelling is sloppy. I would really take any GP above 100 but WdC doesn't let me.
I focus mainly on stylistic aspects of your work and favour writing inline critiques so as to make sure that you know exactly what I am referring to. I believe in constructive criticism. However, I am honest and, though I will do my best to convey my points in the most tactful way possible, I will not give a good rating to a work that does not deserve it. I do my best to adapt to your needs and specifications, and like to post any useful links I think would help you in writing your story. I also love to follow-ups via PM's, so if you have any questions (or if you want to defend something I criticized, it happens), I will be glad to answer, clarify, or just start a discussion with you via email.
